Marriage
Congratulations on your engagement! We are delighted that you are considering Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for the celebration of your marriage. Our parish looks forward to accompanying you as you prepare not only for your wedding day, but for a lifetime of love and faith together. The Sacrament of Marriage In the Catholic Church, marriage is a sacred covenant and a sacrament. Through their vows, a man and woman freely give themselves to one another before God, promising lifelong fidelity, mutual love, and openness to the gift of children. The Sacrament of Marriage is more than a single day of celebration - it is a lifelong vocation in which husband and wife become a visible sign of Christ's faithful love for His Church. Scheduling Your Wedding Couples should contact the Parish Office at least six months before their desired wedding date. Please do not reserve a reception venue or finalize wedding plans until you have met with a priest and your wedding date has been confirmed by the parish. Weddings are typically celebrated on Saturdays and must conclude before the parish's weekend liturgical schedule. Weddings are not ordinarily celebrated during the season of Lent. Marriage Preparation The Diocese of Savannah requires all engaged couples to complete a period of marriage preparation before the wedding. Preparation includes:
Couples are also encouraged to pray together regularly and participate faithfully in Sunday Mass throughout their engagement. If either party has been previously married, a declaration of nullity may be required before a wedding date can be finalized. This process may extend the preparation timeline. Wedding Music Sacred music is an important part of the wedding liturgy. Couples will work with our parish Music Director to select music that reflects the beauty and dignity of the Sacrament of Marriage. Additional Information Please review our Marriage Guidelines for complete details regarding wedding planning, preparation requirements, liturgical policies, and parish procedures. |
