Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing, comfort, and grace. Through the prayer of the Church and the anointing with holy oil, Christ strengthens those who are suffering from serious illness, the effects of aging, or the challenges of major surgery.

Who May Receive the Sacrament?
The Anointing of the Sick may be received by Catholics who have reached the age of reason and are experiencing:
  • A serious illness or significant health condition
  • The frailty or weakening that often accompanies advanced age
  • The need for major surgery due to a serious medical condition
  • Serious physical or mental health challenges

This sacrament is not reserved only for those near death. If you or a loved one is facing illness or declining health, please do not hesitate to contact a priest. The Church encourages the faithful to receive this sacrament at the onset of a serious illness rather than waiting until a crisis occurs.

Requesting the Sacrament

Funeral Planning
The loss of a loved one is a difficult and emotional time. In the midst of grief, the Church is here to support you with prayer, compassion, and the hope of Christ's Resurrection.

When a death occurs, please contact the Parish Office at 912-356-6980 as soon as possible to begin planning the funeral liturgy. The Funeral Mass is the Church’s most powerful prayer for the deceased, offering thanks for their life, praying for the repose of their soul, and bringing comfort and hope to those who mourn. 

Catholic Funeral Traditions
The Church’s customary practice includes:
  • A visitation or wake at the funeral home
  • A Rosary or Scriptural Vigil Service on the evening before the funeral
  • A Funeral Mass celebrated in the parish church
  • The Rite of Committal and blessing of the grave at the cemetery

If special circumstances require different arrangements, please speak with the priest, who will be happy to assist you in making appropriate plans.

Planning the Funeral Mass
Family members will work closely with the parish staff to prepare the Funeral Mass, including the selection of readings, prayers, and other liturgical details.
