BLESSED SACRAMENT PARISH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 6, 2011
The Parish Council of Blessed Sacrament Church met in the Parish Center at 7:00 p.m.
Those in attendance were: Fr. McCarthy, Lynn Brown, Tim Maguire
Tim Ansley, Cathy Daniel, Phillip Jackson, Mike Melroy, John Mesaros,
Diane Roberson, Jeanne Seaver and Sarah Sink.
Opening Prayer: Fr. McCarthy
Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the May 10, 2011 meeting were approved as written with no objections.
Committee Assignments: Fr. McCarthy
Fr. McCarthy distributed a list of the committee appointments for the 2011-2012 year. Those appointees were:
Christian Service – Phillip Jackson
Parish Education - Julia Maxey
Parish Life – Tim Ansley, Cathy Daniel, Diane Roberson, Sarah Sink
Stewardship – Jeanne Seaver
Worship – Mike Melroy
Youth – John Mesaros
School – Lynn Brown, Tim Maguire
Fr. McCarthy thanked those who returned the preference sheet indicating their committee choice.
Fr. McCarthy shared that volunteers are needed to assist Ann Largis with the Children’s Liturgy during the 10:30 Mass.
Because David Kolinski is relocating to Ohio, Tim Ansley is completing David’s term, serving as Vice-Chair of the Council. John Mesaros is the Chair.
Principal’s Report: Lynn Brown
- Blessed Sacrament has an enrollment of 429 students.
- The school will focus on the following 5 goals for the school year: curriculum integration; family manners; writing; education in manners and inquiry science.
- Six new staff members: Suzanne Ansley, Kelly Calimlim, Tina Seungthong, Paulina Twil, Kelli Whitney and Margaret Hubbard.
- Athletics have begun as well as other activities such as Scouting, Brownies.
- Sept. 28 – See You At The Pole Day. This is a global day of student prayer held nationwide on the 4th Wednesday in Sept.
- Oct. 7 - dedication of garden to Bootsie Shearouse.
- Oct. 14 - Leukemia/lymphoma walk is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
- Oct. 28 – Trick or Treat.
- Nov. 1 – All Saints Day.
- Dec. 3 – “Not-So-Silent” Auction.
Parish Life: Sarah Sink
- Donuts and refreshments will resume being served after the 10:30 Mass on the first Sunday in October and continue through May.
- Blessed Sacrament’s Thanksgiving Feast is scheduled for Nov. 20 at 5:30. Many volunteers are needed both on Saturday and Sunday.
Worship: Mike Melroy
Because this was Mr. Melroy’s first meeting, he did not have a report. Fr. McCarthy indicated that this committee will have more to do than previously because of the change in the liturgy which begins the first Sunday in Advent.
Youth: John Mesaros
- Jr. CYO will meet Sunday at 6:00 p.m. in the school gym.
- No update for the upper school youth group.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Financial Reports were distributed and reviewed. Fr. McCarthy shared that the monthly collection for the School Foundation yields approximately $1,800/$2,000 per month.
- Sept. 7, at 7:00 p.m. - Stewardship Fair organizational meeting. The Fair will take place Oct. 1 and 2 after all Masses. Ms. Roberson will be on hand for Oct. 1 and Mr. Mesaros for Oct. 2. All are encouraged to attend.
- Sept. 17, 10:00 a.m. – 90th Anniversary Mass for the Legion of Mary. Bishop Boland will attend the reception which will follow the Mass.
- Sept. 18, 11:30 a.m. - Bishop Emeritus Boland’s Mass of Thanksgiving to be held in the Cathedral.
- Oct. 18, 2:00 p.m. – Bishop-Elect Hartmayer’s ordination in the Cathedral. This event is by invitation only. It will be televised with Fr. McCarthy narrating.
- Maureen and Cameron Cole hosted a party for the altar servers.
- There is a need for renovations both in the church and school. Lack of space in the school is especially problematic. Certain programs cannot be done because of this. The school needs to remain competitive to other schools in the area. Mr. Ansley stated that he would help with this endeavor. Several names were suggested to contact for estimates. The last renovation of the property was in 1958. Ms. Seaver shared that she would like to collaborate with the architect.
- Rekindling the Spirit of Mission in Parishes, a publication in Origins, was distributed. Fr. McCarthy encouraged the Council to read the article so it can be discussed during our next meeting.
- Sister Julie Franchi has been selected as the new Social Apostolate director.

There being no further business, the Sept. 6, 2011 meeting of the Parish Council was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
